A fleeting visit to the small Indian town of Ahmadpur, north of Calcutta, in 1992, provided the inspiration for this diarama. The archetypical Indian narrow gauge station was the terminus for a line from Katwa while just behind was the broad gauge station on the northbound line from Calcutta. A goods shed provided an interchange for freight between the two gauges while passengers either had to walk across the tracks or through the town.
The diarama is 7mm scale using 0 gauge track for the broad gauge and 0n30 track for the narrow gauge. A small variety of trains operate on the On30 with one operating on the 0 gauge within the limited space available. There are numerous features peculiar to the Indian railway scene of the time. As no Indian proprietary models (other than for the Darjeeling Railway in 4mm) are available, everything is scratch-built although may be not to the highest standards, but it remains work in progress and open to comments.
