Hursley Quay
The layout represents the truncated branch line of an erstwhile military railway, now and
for some years operated as a light railway Missing being closed or nationalised, the line
continues to provide the island of Hursley its main freight and passenger connection with
the mainland at Chapelfield.
The goods facility at Hursley Quay handles a variety of traffic from a set of sidings served
by a short spur from the line’s seaside terminus- Hursley Next The Sea. The line used to
continue over the level crossing and into the naval stores depot, but that has ceased to
function and has been lifted. Fine, except that it does make the shunting of the Quay itself
somewhat difficult…
Fact
The track is all hand laid using code 100 rail (it IS a light railway). Points are servo driven,
and the wagon distribution uses a series of cards to determine what goes where.
If you have any questions or suggestions do please speak the the person holding the throttle
